As his wife, Ellen, slips away into the grips of Alzheimer's, John Brighton finds himself challenged beyond anything he could have imagined when he vowed his lifelong commitment and love to her so many years before. A Vow to Cherish portrays the importance of living by godly principles in a world searching for answers. Starring Barbara Babcock, Ken Howard and Ossie Davis.

Excellent video on marital commitment. The husband, missing his wife’s companionship, becomes emotionally attached to a younger woman as his wife slips farther into Alzheimer’s disease. His friend, played by Ossie Davis, counsels him against it and eventually takes him to a Billy Graham Crusade, where he realizes the error of his ways. The ending made even my husband cry.

  • A Real Gem

A Vow to Cherish is a real gem. John Brighton, who is dealing with his wife's illness, comes across very believable. Unlike many movies that are out there, John turns to his friend, played by Ossie Davis, for godly advice. He does the appropriate thing when faced with temptation. His children were obviously raised with the love and respect of parents who loved the Lord. There were many touching moments in the film that made one feel that you know people like that in your own congregation. I would definitely recommend the movie to anyone who is a caregiver and also to young people who may have lost a loved one or knows someone who is dealing with illness.
