With war raging about her and soldiers closing in, the wounded missionary Gladys Aylward (as portrayed in the movie, The Inn of the Sixth Happiness) sets out on the most difficult journey of her life -- a 100-mile trek over the mountains to a safe haven.

But it's not her own safety that concerns this little woman with big faith. It's the safety and well being of the 100 orphaned children in her care. Watch as Gladys' strength and faith are stretched to the limit, all for the sake of the children.

Some how Torchlighters was able to cram the gems of Aylward's story into 30 minutes that my 5-year-old just loves! I was really pleased with the quality and scope of this video. There are even bits of accurate Mandarin thrown in to the pleasure of those whose children know or are learning Chinese. Now I must try to get the entire series!

  • EXCELENTE RECURSO!

The newest addition to the outstanding Vision Video series "The Torchlighters: Heroes of the Faith" is "The Gladys Aylward Story," a 30-minute animated video for children ages 8 through 12 that presents a true account of a Christian missionary who helped more than one hundred Chinese orphans to escape the onslaught of the Japanese when they swept through China in 1940 massacring whole populations in their conquest. Gladys Aylward embarked with the orphans upon a one hundred mile trek over the mountains of China to a safe haven. With only her determination, faith, and commitment to those children entrusted to her care, Gladys Aylward was able to accomplish one of the truly legendary rescues of World War II. This superbly recorded DVD is enhanced with English and Spanish languages with optional English subtitles, and is enhanced for the viewer with the additional inclusion of a documentary featuring biographer Carol Purves and Gladys' adopted son, Clifford Liu. A comprehensive leader's guide with lesson plans, background information, reproducible student handouts, and more make "The Gladys Aylward Story" ideal for home schooling and church schooling curriculums.
