Description

While casually browsing the bookshelves at a local library, a young woman stumbles across a book about the sixteen-year-old martyr, Lady Jane Grey. Her imagination soon gives way to reality as we are transported back in time to find Jane (Jerica Henline) on the eve of her execution, rejected by her people, dethroned, and locked in a tower because of her refusal to acquiesce to the faith of her cousin, Mary Tudor, and having for comfort her only faithful friend, Mrs. Ellen (Emily Meinerding). Follow this valiant young woman through the final hours of her life and be a part of the few to uncover the truth of this magnificent, untold story! Fullscreen.

Editorial Reviews

This 15 minute short film is a docudrama, which looks at the last day and hours of Lady Jane Grey's life. In the tumultuous time of Tudor England, Mary Tudor demands that Lady Jane Grey give up her Anglican faith in order to convert to Roman Catholicism. When Lady Jane Grey refuses to covert, Mary Tudor orders her to be beheaded.

The film begins in modern times with a young woman in a library reading the story of Lady Jane Grey. We are then transported to a scene the night before Lade Jane Grey's execution. Carefully she composes a last letter to her sister and gives her the parting gift of a Bible. Even at he young age of sixteen, Lady Jane Greg's education and faith are obvious. Her steadfast refusal to covert to Catholicism earned her the designation of martyr.

This film was written by Jerica Henline, who also portrays Lady Jane Grey. This teenage writer/actress teams up with her director brother to bring a young perspective to the film. Since the writer is of similar age to Lady Jane Grey at her time of execution, she offers a unique connection the young life of this martyr.

Also included on the disc is 13 minutes of bonus features including interviews with the young director and writer/actress. This film could be particularly interesting to use with a high school youth group as a way of exploring the depth of faith and conviction of beliefs. The 15-minutes run time would allow time for good discussion even in a brief Sunday School period. (Also this could serve as an introduction to the 1986 feature film Lady Jane Grey, available on DVD.)

The Henlines have made a charming film brief yet thorough. Costumes and lighting excellent. I loved how they had the girl in the library gasp out loud as she read the beheading. Very effective concept. I hope they are able to continue producing short well done historical films.

- Closest depiction of our Royal martyr sister

This needs to be stated first and foremost I am a diehard, open "Janeiac" anything that has to do with Queen Lady Jane Grey draws mine like bees on a sunflower. That said, this portrayal of the last earthly day that Jane Grey Dudley lived was effectively shown in regards to her strong love for JESUS, her unwavering belief that she would be Home soon and her exquisite knowledge of the Holy Scriptures. True, the scene of her death did not fully contain every last true detail according to the historical accounts, however, there is only a finite amount of cinematography that can be condensed into a 15-minute short film with a $8,000 budget. Overall, the film is very effective in helping any believers today understand that they too can glorify GOD in their last days and their last moments. Also, we can rest assured that GOD will resurrect and honor his faithful followers who remained loyal unto HIM to the place of their departures.
