Editorial Reviews

The First Valentine is a 25-minute long lesson on love and history. Meet 13-year-old Tess, a shy girl, new to her 20th century school. Her teacher helps her understand how special she is by introducing her to third-century martyr Valentine and his Christian friends. The time travel brings you face-to-face with the persecution of that era and gives you a sure admiration for those who've gone before you in the faith. This video is excellent as a teaching tool. It’s short, with a quick-moving story line and colorful sets. Some sources state that Valentine was fed to the lions rather than beheaded as the film portrays, but the other facts are clear: Valentine loved the Lord Jesus, and gave his life for that love. When teaching your children, other students, or your Sunday school class the real story of St. Valentine's Day, you'll need this video. It’s an excellent resource and a very memorable story. - Valentine

I really enjoy sharing this film with my middle schooler students Grades 6-88. It opens up good discussion of Christian persecution during the time and helps them make visual associations with Biblical history as related by the Apostle Paul in his letters to the churches.
