Description

A fast-moving exploration of all the major sites featured in the Gospels. Starting with the Annunciation, David Nunn follows through the Gospel drama chronologically, providing fascinating and illuminating insights into the life of Jesus.

From Bethlehem, David takes us to Nazareth and its surrounding terrain, which witnessed so much of the Old Testament history of Israel. Then it is on to the wilderness, where John called people to repent, then to the River Jordan. In the lush beauty of Galilee, we visit many of the sites most associated with Jesus: the Mount of Beatitudes, Tabgha, Capernaum, the lakeside and more. We discover why Jesus chose Caesarea Philippi to elicit Peter's momentous profession. We explore the headwaters of the Jordan around Dan before following the path of Jesus south to Jerusalem, passing through Jericho.

In the Holy City we trace the passion of Jesus from betrayal, trial and crucifixion to the resurrection and ascension.

This program is far more than a travelogue. The visits to the key Gospel sites illuminate the meaning of the world-changing events that took place at these locations. Fullscreen.

Editorial Reviews

Most of us do not have the opportunity to travel to the Holy Land. The next best option is often to read a book or watch a movie. Galloping through the Gospels is a 31-minute travelogue of major Christian sites where the dramatic events in the life of Jesus unfold. Starting with Nazareth's Church of the Annunciation, the narrator tells Christ's story chronologically. Along the way, we visit Bethlehem, the River Jordan, the wilderness, Galilee, and finally Jerusalem for the events of Christ's Passion and Death. The narrator, David Nunn, provides insights and descriptions.

The narrator, David Nunn, takes the viewer on a chronological tour of the life of Jesus by visiting all of the major sites mentioned in the Gospels. Church buildings now surround some of he sites. The visual tour includes such sites as the Church of Nativity, the Wailing Wall, Megiddo, Mt. Carmel, Nazareth, the Judean wilderness, Capernaum, Lake Galilee, Caesarea, the Jordan River, Jericho, Gethsemane, Via Delarosa and Golgotha. The tour also includes a stop at a model display of first century Jerusalem, located at the Holy Land Hotel. I found Mr. Nunn's comments to be accurate and helpful. In addition to lovely views, the viewers hears the occasional views, the viewers hears the occasional background music such as flutes and ethnic songs. I recommend Galloping Through the Gospels for church, school, and personal libraries.

The title is apt: the pace is definitely brisk as David Nunn follows the events of Jesus' life in chronological order, starting in Bethlehem at the Church of the Nativity, to the river Jordan, and Galilee, all the while visiting sites associated with Jesus' life and ministry - the Mount of the Beatitudes, Capernaum, Caesarea Philippi - from his birth to his final hours in the Garden of Gethsemane, along the Via Dolorosa, on the cross at Golgotha, and ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Ironically, the viewer does not at all feel rushed as Nunn's solid commentary on biblical events is nicely interwoven with pleasant views of modern day Israel, tasteful pop songs from the Christian Music Ministries, and some native Israeli music in this winning program that should appeal to a young audience. Recommended.

Even if you have no interest in archeology, you'll find something to edify your spiritual life with Galloping Through the Gospels. With his enthusiasm for history, David Nunn puts life into explaining the expedition of the surroundings where Jesus walked, ate, taught, even wept in Israel. By actually seeing the communities and countryside, you can visualize how Jesus ministered to the people. Viewing the marketplace and everyday folks, you begin to feel the apathy of those who didn't believe in Jesus. However, hearing God's Word and seeing the archeological and historical proofs, you start to feel a sense of excitement welling up inside of you. The photography captures the springs, waterfalls, waterways, colorful flowers, and picturesque skies of Israel while background music is played. Pulling back from the ruins of ancient cities and segueing into horticultural beauty shows the deterioration of manmade materials and the eternity of God-made creations. This video would serve well as a supplements for teaching Bible studies or Sunday school lessons, as well as personal viewing.
