"I'm thankin' God for everything, the big stuff and the teeny. I prayed for aardvarks just last spring, and now I'm on zucchini." In this DVD, animated poems, songs, and prayers in rhyme introduce each letter of the alphabet. An aardvark puppet follows each segment with a prayer extension activity for parents and kids to think about and pray together related to that alphabet letter. New works for parents and preschoolers to discuss (including such gems as exoskeleton and eel) are sure to become a preschool vocabulary booster. This thirty-minute video, broken into the twenty-six alphabet segments, would be a fun nightly bedtime ritual, or the one-to-two minute single segments could be used in a congregational education setting with young children for twenty-six weeks. The animated line drawings and an aardvark puppet with his stuffed zucchini are uniquely fun and inviting.

The animated From Aardvark to Zucchini: My Very Own Alphabet of Prayers features a fuzzy purple aardvark holding a green zucchini, who presents the alphabet ("Thank God for something that starts with each letter of the alphabet") with images, songs, and Bible verses, combining spiritual messages with faith-based fun, accompanied by suggestions for various activities for children. Although the material is presented in a rapid and hyperkinetic fashion, the preschool target audience will likely find this to be an appealing and colorful introduction to the subject of prayer. Recommended.

From Aardvark to Zucchini: My Very Own Alphabet of Prayers is designed to help children learn the alphabet while emphasizing praying without ceasing and giving thanks for all things. Each DVD contains thirteen 23- minute episodes, with each episode using live action, puppets, animation, music, and poetry to teach one letter of the alphabet. All of my kids, even my fourth grader, enjoy watching From Aardvark to Zucchini. A puppet aardvark holding a zucchini acts as the master of ceremonies for each episode. This is an entertaining video that attempts to educate with a godly emphasis. The clever rhymes, animation, and music make it memorable.
