Tales From The Madhouse

Set inside the crumbling walls of a dilapidated Victorian sanatorium, eight mysterious characters reveal their secret stories to the visiting camera. The eight are linked by one unifying and crucial event in their lives: each of them has had an encounter with Jesus of Nazareth in some way — an experience that has left an indelible mark. Each character brushed with Jesus but most missed the moment. They touched the light then lingered in the shadows. They were offered freedom but made friends with their chains. Now they are haunted by the memory of what was and what might have been.

Description

Set inside the crumbling walls of a dilapidated Victorian sanatorium, eight mysterious characters reveal their secret stories to the visiting camera. The eight are linked by one unifying and crucial event in their lives: each of them has had an encounter with Jesus of Nazareth in some way — an experience that has left an indelible mark.

Each character brushed with Jesus but most missed the moment. They touched the light then lingered in the shadows. They were offered freedom but made friends with their chains. Now they are haunted by the memory of what was and what might have been. Here is an acclaimed series that opens up the Scriptures, the story of Jesus, and Easter week in a fascinating way.

Includes: Pilate's Wife starring Clair Bloom, The Rich Man starring Peter France, The Best Friend starring Tony Robinson, The Mourner starring Eileen Atkins, The Servant Girl starring Helen Baxendale, Barabbas starring Joss Ackland, The Centurion starring James Cosmo, and The Thief starring Jonathan Pryce.

Eight 14-minute episodes. Fullscreen.

Each chapter includes, along with the story itself, an INTRODUCTION, REFLECTION QUESTIONS, and ACTOR'S BIOGRAPHY (all can be accessed through the DVD player). A comprehensive study guide in PDF format is included on the DVD-ROM.

- Visit the Madhouse

I used this excellent production in a conservative Baptist adult Sunday school class. Many students liked the change in perspective. Only one walked out, and he lasted until "The Servant Girl." Inclusion of the script was very helpful.

- Fantastic production

This may be the best video series I have ever seen. Too many Christian videos are a little cheesy, with second-rate acting and photography, and trite scripts. Not this. It's classy, deep and compelling. We used this in an adult Sunday School class and held a group of 40 spellbound. The videos are professionally done, with excellent actors and top-notch scripts. They are like short stories, with subtle visual clues and rich details woven into brief scripts. They are so rich that we viewed each one twice. We started the class with the 15-minute video segment, talked about what we had seen, and then showed it again at the end so people could see what they missed the first time. Obviously, some of the stories take liberties (not illogical ones) with what scripture says, and you will want to point that out. Also, you will want to do some outside research to explain, for example, why the widow of Nain is sitting barefoot (she is sitting shiva, or mourning). But I cannot recommend this one highly enough.

- Tales from the Madhouse

Striking and powerful presentation of lives touched by the Christ....but lives which diverted from His teaching through plan failure fault or accident. Satan's temptations are strong and these mad people show the dangers which face us all....especially when we are called to walk in the footsteps of Jesus....and we decline the call.

- Tales from the Madhouse

This is an excellent video! As a storyteller I can say that the stories are compelling and promote great discussions. I have used this video as a Lenten program with much success. I highly recommend this!
