Editorial Reviews

Giving in to peer pressure - against her parents' wishes- 17-year-old Tasha Grant goes to a "kegger" and gets more than just a little drunk. When her boyfriend passes out, Tasha takes the wheel. The alcohol has made her so sleepy, she doesn't hear the distant train whistle as it gets closer and closer. Tasha is not alone. Somewhere there is a control room and an assistant controller who puts his job on the line to show Tasha the devastating consequences of the choices she's making- choices that will provoke every teenager to think soberly about the use of alcohol. This video includes a discussion guide to help youth consider how our actions have consequences and how moral choices inexorably affect our lives and future.

Peer Pressure. Drinking and driving. Work. Relationships. School. These are issues Tasha Ward must face in Alone in the Dark. Even more importantly , she must face the consequences of the the decisions she makes about them. Alone in the Dark is a compelling drama geared for teens, depicting the sometimes harsh results of every day decisions. they must make. Especially riveting is a funeral scene in which Tasha's mother laments Tasha's sister's death. This video quickly grabs viewer's attention, keeps it and makes the point that seemingly unimportant choices can drastically impact our lives. The film is decently written and well-acted and produced. It's unclear if a space-age control room represents heave or Tasha's conscience, but it doesn't detract from the video's quality. Any overt Christian reference is missing- the video could be shown in public schools without controversy. However, an accompanying study guide for small-group discussions gives a biblical perspective on the issues raised in the film. Regardless, Alone in the Dark is effective in helping viewers realize that decisions can carry serious consequences. Highly recommend it for small youth group or Bible studies in which discussion can be held afterwards.
